I am delighted to be able to welcome you to the Signal website. Signal
is the leading provider of Longshore coverage and provides a unique solution to
the onerous obligations of waterfront employers under the Longshore Act.
Signal's growth since 1986 reflects the success in meeting Members' needs, and indeed,
its Membership now represents many of the leading companies in the stevedoring,
shipyard and offshore oil and gas fields, as well as other sectors of the maritime
industry. Today, Signal's Members report Longshore payrolls in excess of $2bn during
the course of the Association’s Membership Year which starts October 1.
Signal is unique because Member representatives are responsible for making executive
decisions on the Association's Board of Directors. Moreover, two times a year open
Board meetings are held to which all Members and their brokers are invited. This
has ensured that Signal's development has always been driven by the needs of the
Members. I am proud to say that today Signal is not only recognized as providing
the highest level of service, but with claims payments equaling 93% of every dollar
paid by Members, it also provides one of the most efficient claims payment mechanisms
within the Longshore market.
Our intention is that this website should fulfill two goals. First, for companies
who want to learn more about Signal, it provides a way of quickly accessing key
information including, of course, how to become a Member. Second, Members are now
able to access a wide variety of real time claims and underwriting information.
Furthermore, Members, brokers and adjusters can also access a range of more detailed
information about, for example, Signal's claims management or safety services. In
short, the development of the Signal website is an ongoing process to ensure that
Signal continues to provide the highest levels of service in the Longshore Industry.
